- Corporate assets
The Network
The QuikTrak technology was originally designed to locate moving and stationary assets using radio signals. As the technology developed, additional capabilities were integrated and today the QuikTrak "system" is a location, alarm and messaging technology with a network of remote sites interrogating low-power transponders.
The system has some parts in common with Global Positioning System (GPS) but is an inverse of the GPS in that instead of using signals from moving reference satellites to determine position, the QuikTrak system uses a fixed receiver system to determine the position of a moving transmitter.
The transmitter is attached to each object to be located and is termed a transponder. It combines the functions of a pocket pager and a transmitter. Its pager function allows the transponder to be uniquely addressed and commanded to broadcast a brief locatable radio signal.
The remote sites (base stations) are strategically located throughout the coverage area to receive and measure signals from transponders and pass this information and any alarms/messages to the Control and Processing site which uses time of arrival and hyperbolic fixing (triangulation) to calculate location. The paging sites are also equipped to send messages to the transponders.
Coverage
Access to QuikTrak network services are only possible within the defined coverage areas. Currently, QuikTrak operates four networks covering over 50% of the Australian population.
Roaming between networks is seamless and our response centre is available via phone at all times and some assistance may be provided even outside the official coverage areas.
